Opinion:   “Drivers' licenses seek to protect other motorists and pedestrians from danger stemming from unqualified drivers.

Fact:  If the implication is that gay people are unqualified to be married, due to public risk, then an aptitude test should probably be developed, and administered to all prospective newlyweds - gay and straight. This is, of course, unless we're to believe that any such test would be too advanced for gay people. It's easy to imagine, though, an average middle-aged gay couple scoring fairly high, and an average 18-year-old straight couple struggling with some of the essay questions. So, drivers' licenses may not be a good analogy for marriage licenses. In North Carolina, no 'qualifications' are required for a fishing license. Perhaps that's a better analogy.
